Mysterious kangaroo sighting in Brandenburg: Exotic animal on the run!

kangaroo in Brandenburg spotted

This time it's not a lion, not even a wild boar, but a real kangaroo! On Monday afternoon, a kangaroo between Werneuchen and Seefeld in the Barnim district, about 40 kilometers northeast of Berlin, was spotted.

on a video that Dominik Perplies from Berlin-Pankow recorded, the kangaroo can be seen on a meadow on the edge of the forest. At first it looks quietly into the camera, then it hops at a high pace towards the forest.

Perplies was on the meadow on the day between 2 and 4 p.m. with a telescopic loader to recover a fallen tree. When the kangaroo suddenly ran over, he first thought that it might be an injured deer. But when it disappeared into the bushes, it was clear to him that it was an approximately one meter of kangaroo. Later he searched for the animal again, but could no longer discover it. He usually only sees kangaroos in the zoo, so the encounter in the wild was something special for him.

According to wild animal expert Derk Ehlert, the kangaroo is a red neck wall. There are ten zoos and zoo in Brandenburg who hold such kangaroos. The next zoo in Eberswalde is about 30 kilometers from the viewing site. Ehlert emphasizes that the kangaroo could have been traveling for a while and that it can quickly cover several kilometers a day. As a vegetarian, in Brandenburg it can be of life what it finds in nature. The rather cool weather is also no problem for the winter -resistant animals. In addition, kangaroos do not have to be afraid of other animals in Germany, except for wolves.

The runaway kangaroo in Werneuchen is not an isolated case in Brandenburg. In recent years there have always been reports on exploited kangaroos. In 2011 a kangaroo was sighted in Sonnewalde, which also fled into the forest at the time. In 2014, a kangaroo mom and baby escaped from a courtyard in Derwitz in the bag and even jumped over the A10 motorway. In 2015, a kangaroo released in Werder (Havel), but was later found dead on a company property near the Groß Kreutz motorway exit. In July 2015, a Busch kangaroo in Frankförde near Luckenwalde was captured and brought to a foster family. In 2016, three kangaroo babies in the Märkisch-Oderland district disappeared within a few weeks, one from the Oderbruchzoo Altreetz and another in the area. A kangaroo was stolen in Wriezen in 2017.

The kangaroo in Werneuchen has been on the road for some time. It is not protected and therefore not subject to reporting because it is a red neck wall. Everyone can keep such kangaroos in Brandenburg. Only protected species have to be reported.

The police currently have no information about the run -down kangaroo and is also not actively looking for the animal. It is believed that the kangaroo has already covered a considerable route and may be on the road for a long time.
