In the middle of us: homeless women* in Berlin - a moving exhibition on fates and invisibility.
As the Berliner Zeitung reports, the exhibition "In the middle of us. Homeless women* in Berlin" has been opened in the Humboldt Forum. The exhibition shows fates of homeless women and would like to draw attention to their situation. According to the curators of the association cross -city, which organizes the exhibition, homeless women are often not seen or overlooked in a targeted manner. The exhibition gives women a voice and shows their perspectives on the questions about the reasons for the lack of homes, the challenges of survival on the street and the restoration of their dignity.
An example of an homeless woman presented in the exhibition is the 56-year-old Anna from Poland. She fled to Berlin in front of her violent husband and slept on the street until she came to prison. After her release, she searched for social institutions and finally found an apartment. Anna contacted cross town during her time in the city mission and she became part of the exhibition.
The project management of cross -city is considered the exhibition as an experiment to see whether the change of perspective is also possible as part of an exhibition. The aim is not to exhibit individual fates, but to raise awareness of the lack of housing and the structural problems associated with it.
In Berlin, at least 50,000 people are estimated to be homeless, with some of several hundred thousand. The Federal Government has set itself the goal of ending the homelessness and homelessness by 2030. The exhibition wants to point out this problem and demand structural solutions.
The exhibition "In the middle of us. Homeless women* in Berlin" can be seen in the Humboldt Forum on Schloßplatz 1 in Berlin and runs from October 21, 2023 to March 31, 2025. Entry is 7 euros, the entry is free.
