Berlin Mitte celebrates for 10 years as a Fairtrade-Town: a sign of justice
Berlin Mitte celebrates a great anniversary! For the tenth anniversary of the award as a "Fairtrade Town", the district shines in new splendor and sets a strong sign of global justice and fair trade. District Mayor Stefanie Remlinger is proud that Mitte has established itself as a pioneer for social responsibility and sustainability.
"We are proud to celebrate the 10th anniversary as a fair trade town!" Said Remlinger. "Despite our small size in a huge world, we firmly believe that we can play an important role at the local level. Every cup of fairly traded coffees that we serve at our sessions sends a strong signal for a fairer future." Coffee is not just drunk here - responsibility is taken over here!
a role model for many
The Mitte district not only relies on Fairtrade products, but also lives this philosophy! Ten years ago, he received the first award from Fairtrade Deutschland e.V., and since then it has been hard to fulfill the five necessary criteria for maintaining the title. Official events are only the beginning: fair trade coffee and tea are guaranteed at every meeting, and the local group "Mitte Fair and Sustainable" causes a sensation with numerous actions during the fair week!
The committed districts do everything they can to spread the message of fair trade. In shops and restaurants on site, people find a selection of fair products, and the media regularly report on the activities of the district. Berlin Mitte is no longer just a place, but a lively example of how to make positive changes through conscious action.
part of a large network
But that's not all! With over 690 Fairtrade Towns in Germany, Berlin Mitte is part of a global network of over 2,000 Fairtrade Towns in 36 countries. This shows that the movement goes far beyond the borders of Berlin and sets an impressive example of other communities around the world.
