Tenants have to pay: Explode salaries of the apartment sexecutive!
In the coming January, many tenants of state -owned apartments in Berlin will have to expect to increase their rental costs. Report the Berliner Zeitung According to rents for around 90,000 apartments increase by up to 45 euros per month. This price increase is important for the managers of Berlin housing companies at the same time with considerable salary increases. The managing directors of DeGewo, Sandra Wehrmann and Christoph Beck, earned a total of around 665,000 euros in 2023, which corresponds to an increase of 65,000 euros compared to the previous year. Other companies such as Gewobag and Gesobau also show similarly high board members.
The critics of these salary increases are outraged: Katrin Schmidberger from the Greens describes the salary growth as "difficult to convey" in view of the rising rents, while Niklas Schenker describes the situation as "cheek" from the left. According to Schenker, salaries should be based on social requirements, not on profit margins. This salary discussion is conducted against the background of increased pressure from the tenants, who must already raise 25.2 percent of their household income for housing costs, as the figures of the BSW group . For 2023, this income was an increase compared to the previous year, an alarming trend that describes Sahra Wagenknecht from the BSW as a "impoverishment program".
Wagenknecht calls for measures such as a nationwide rental cover and a stronger regulation of the housing market in order to secure an affordable apartment for citizens. Compared to other EU countries, such as France and Austria, the proportion of income that Germans have to raise for their rents is already higher. This situation raises serious questions about rental policy in Germany, while the tenants hope for relief from the growing costs.
