The focus: End discrimination against older people!
shocking reality: older people in society discriminated!
On October 1, the international day of the older person is celebrated on the world, but the dark truth is that many seniors are still victims of discrimination. In order to shed light on this grievance, the United Service Union (ver.di) has loudly warned that respect for human rights for everyone, regardless of age, is far from reality.
"It is outrageous! Older people see themselves in numerous areas of life," emphasized Andrea Kocsis , deputy chairwoman of ver.di. It throws a bright light on the shocking injustices: in loans, insurance contributions and the use of public services, older citizens are often pushed out of the way. Digitization is the new catchphrase, but many seniors do not have the required smartphones or apps to participate in society. Regardless of whether when driving a bus, applying for documents or banking - access is severely restricted. These practical discrimination not only represent injustices, but are also a clear violation of human rights!
UN convention against age discrimination required!
In addition to the accusing words, ver.di calls on the Federal Government to fight for an UN Convention on the Rights on an international level. Kocsis explains: "An international framework would be a strong signal of rejection of age discrimination!" It would be a milestone that could firmly anchor the protection of older people. But that's not all! Ver.di not only relies on legal changes, but also urges an immediate solidarity care. Seniors who are in need of care are often faced with financial ruin because the current partial cost insurance companies abandon them. "It shouldn't be that people in their last years of life get into a financial emergency!" Kocsis urges. It is high time that the Federal Government takes measures to establish solidarity care insurance that covers all costs - no matter how much money the affected has!
Such fully care insurance would not only enable the elderly to live a worthy life, but also to significantly improve working conditions in the nursing industry. According to Kocsis, this is an essential step into a fairer society that leaves no one behind.
The date is an important wake -up call that we must not ignore. It is time to fight against discrimination and stand up for human rights! The demands are clear and the time to act is now!
