Marzahn Pride: 900 celebrate despite the right troublemaker!
Märkische Allee, 12685 Berlin, Deutschland - On June 21, 2025, the “Marzahn Pride” took place for the sixth time, which with around 900 participants set a strong message for diversity and acceptance. The event started in the early afternoon near the S-Bahnhof Springpfuhl. Social Senator Cansel Kiziltepe (SPD) did not miss the opportunity to take part in the final rally and supported the demands of the demonstrators. In doing so, she expressed concerns that the parade "should be disturbed by neo -Nazis", which accompanied the concerned atmosphere for the event.
In fact, a counter -demonstration of the right -wing extremist side was registered under the title "against confusion of identity and gender propaganda", which had expected around 300 participants. According to the police, however, only 40 people took part in this counter -demonstration. The neo-Nazi group "German Youth ahead" was responsible for organizing this disorder. Fortunately, the situation remained calm, and participants of both events did not come into contact.contextualization of the LGBTI rights
The "Marzahn Pride" is not isolated. In many parts of the world, including in Europe, LGBTI people face considerable challenges. In countries such as Iraq, Uganda and Hungary, same-sex relationships and dealing with LGBTI issues are legally restricted or even pursued. A law was passed in Iraq that punishes same -sex relationships with up to 15 years in prison. In Africa, consensual same-sex sexual acts are criminalized in 31 countries, which reinforces the dangers for LGBTI people.
A law was passed in Uganda, especially in Uganda, which provides for the death penalty for severe homosexuality. However, there are also positive developments, such as in Greece, where same-sex marriage was recognized in February 2024, or in Thailand, where marriage was legalized for LGBTI pairs in June 2024.
These discriminatory laws and the repeated attacks on LGBTI rights drive people onto the streets, as with the “Marzahn Pride”, where despite impending disorders, strong community formation and a clear sign of acceptance were shown. The support from politicians like Kiziltepe is of central importance to maintain pressure and to promote an inclusive society.
in Berlin have recently been regularly documented on marching right -wing extremists, which also contains the security situation for events such as the "Marzahn Pride". Nevertheless, such parades show that civil society is not willing to stay still. The event in Marzahn impressively demonstrated that many people stand up for diversity and against discrimination.
The "Marzahn Pride" and the accompanying protest once again illustrate the need to fight for LGBTI rights and have the potential to act as a platform for changes and mutual understanding. In view of the global challenges, as shown by Amnesty International in their reports, the importance of such events remains undisputed.
