Stromnetz Berlin celebrates the topping -out ceremony for new substation Poelchaustrasse
On Wednesday, February 21, 2024, the topping -out ceremony for the new Poelchaustrasse transformer plant from Stromnetz Berlin took place. District City Councilor Juliane Witt was present to celebrate the event in which 27 million euros were invested in the work. The 110,000 volt plant replaces a more than 45-year-old facility at the same location and is to be put into operation by 2027. This step is part of the Berlin plan to double the network capacity in the next ten years and to strengthen the care of household and commercial customers in the east of the city.
The district mayor of Marzahn-Hellersdorf, Nadja Zivkovic, emphasized the importance of powerful power grids for the energy transition and was pleased with the active support of the Berlin power grid. Stromnetz-Berlin managing director Dr. Erik Landeck emphasized that the expansion and modernization of the power grid in the east of the city are of crucial importance, since the need for electricity will continue to increase in the coming years.
In order to manage the necessary investments, the Senate has proposed to increase the equity of the parent company Berlin Energie and Netzholding (Ben) in this and next year for a total of 300 million euros. As a result, the future requirements, for example, should be managed by the growth of the city, the decentralized electricity feeding into the network through solar energy and the electrification of mobility.
These measures are part of the efforts to make Berlin's energy infrastructure fit for the future and to achieve the Berlin climate protection goals. The cooperation between Stromnetz Berlin and the support of the Senate should create an essential building block for the implementation of the energy and heat transition.
Table:
| Costs of the Poelchaustraße substation | 27 million euros |
| Planned commissioning | 2027 |
| Investment proposal for Berlin Energie and Netzholding (Ben) | 300 million euros |
Investments in the energy infrastructure and the expansion of the power grid are an important step to ensure future energy supply and the requirements of the energy transition in Berlin. With the new PoelChastraße substation, the course is set for a sustainable and modern energy supply in the capital.
