In Marzahn-Hellersdorf there is a problem with abandoned bicycles that are in public space and are not removed by the owners. Thanks to the cooperation of the regulatory office with the Berlin city cleaning and the police sections in the district, this problem has so far been limited. In 2023, only 62 reports on abandoned bicycles were received by the regulatory office.

As soon as a message receives at the regulatory office or a “bicycle corpse” has been determined, disposal will be initiated immediately. However, this requires a certain amount of time, since in addition to checking a possible search request and a public request to the owner, there must also be capacity for the disposal company by means of a so -called "yellow point". The regulatory office can only intervene directly in the public street country and the green areas and arrange for disposal. The private property owners (e.g. housing associations) are asked to remedy.

The regulatory office asks for a “bicycle corpse” for a message-preferably directly via the "Ordnungsamt-Online" app at www.berlin.de/ordungsamt-online/mobile- app.

This problem is not only relevant in Marzahn-Hellersdorf, but also affects many districts in Germany. In recent years, increasingly abandoned bicycles have been reported, which pollute public space and sometimes even represent traffic obstacles. It is important that the citizens are sensitized to maintain the cleanliness and order in public space together

The reports received in recent years have been listed in recent years to abandoned bicycles in the Marzahn-Hellersdorf district:

| Year | Number of reports |
| —— | ——————- |
| 2020 | 78 |
| 2021 | 71 |
| 2022 | 65 |
| 2023 | 62 |

It can be seen that the number of reports has been declining in recent years, which could be due to the measures of the regulatory office and the cooperation with other authorities. Nevertheless, it is important to remain vigilant and to encourage citizens to report abandoned bicycles to ensure a clean and decent cityscape.
