an epic artwork

The original covering of the Reichstag in the summer of 1995 was an important art campaign that envelop the building in 100,000 square meters of silver fabric for two weeks. The idea for this came about in 1971, but only after 20 years of discussion was approved in 1994. The campaign, which took place from June 24th to July 7th, 1995, attracted over 5 million visitors and sustainably shaped the image of Germany's reunification. The pictures of the "Wrapped Reichstag" went around the world and made Christo and Jeanne-Claude international artificons. German wave emphasizes that the central concern of the building was to be experienced and not to be experienced hide.

Christo and Jeanne-Claude, who worked as an equivalent partner, are known for their temporary mega artworks, which are often anchored in the city landscape. All of their projects were financed by the sale of drawings and models, and the two rejected public funds or sponsors. The transience is a central element of your work, with which you repeatedly stimulate the viewers to reflect. arte concreta describes how the installations cause through the use of fabrics and ropes so that the architectural and natural environment appears.

a lasting inheritance

The art of Christo and Jeanne-Claude remains alive, even after the death of Jeanne-Claude in 2009 and Christo in 2020. Your inheritance will continue to be recognized by new projects, as recently implemented by the posthumously implemented coverage of the Arc de Triomphe in Paris in 2021. In this anniversary year 2025, in which both artists would have been 90 years old, the light projection will be a special event that not only honors the past, but also underlines the relevance of art today.
