According to a report by www.berlin.de this year will be promoted for the first time for the international day this year organize human rights. These will take place from November 20 to December 15, 2023. The international day of human rights is celebrated annually on December 10th and this year the general explanation of human rights will be 75 years old.
The district of Lichtenberg would like to draw attention to people with various activities during this week for people who are affected by precarious human rights situations. A special focus will be on children's rights, the care of relatives, actions against violence against women and LSBTIQ+ rights.
District Mayor Martin Schaefer from the CDU emphasizes that a lot has to be done despite the global wars and injuries. According to Schaefer, around 76,750 proceedings were pending at the European Court of Human Rights on June 30, 2023. He encourages Berlin citizens to work for human rights in everyday life.
District City Councilor for Children, Youth and Health, Camilla Schuler von Die Linke, points out that human rights already play an important role for the little ones. It emphasizes the importance of appreciative relationships, diversity and different perspectives in early childhood care and calls for adequate recognition and payment for pedagogical specialists in daycare centers.
The general explanation of human rights is considered universal and includes, among other things, the right to life, freedom, security, freedom of thought and faith, the prohibition of torture and slavery, the right to freedom of expression, education, health, work and well-being.
The Federal Government has developed the “Action Plan Human Rights of the Federal Government 2023-2024”, which sets the priorities in important fields of action for the next two years, both national and internationally.
