Leverkusen trumps Munich: Nui ranking 2023 for regions unveiled

Nui regions ranking 2023: Leverkusen leads at a high level

In the current NUI region ranking, there is a remarkable development: After five years, the city of Leverkusen has overtaken the Munich district and was at the top of the list. This is an important sign of entrepreneurial dynamics in the region and reflects a positive trend that extends across the entire federal territory.

The Institute for Small Research (IFM) in Bonn created this ranking, based on the number of new company foundations, takeovers and the influx of businesses per 10,000 inhabitants of an employable age. This data is important because they provide direct information about the economic climate and the innovative strength in the respective regions.

In the top 20 list of NUI regions, cities such as Baden-Baden, Rosenheim and Offenbach am Main are represented. Interestingly, other cities such as Zweibrücken and Aschaffenburg have made significant jumps upwards, which indicates a dynamic entrepreneurial spirit. Zweibrücken, for example, climbed 18th place from 82, while Aschaffenburg from 51 to 9 climb.

This ranking is particularly important because it shows that the number of new entrepreneurial initiatives is again above the pre-pandemy level. In 2023, the NUI indicator was 131.3 on average of all 400 circles and independent cities, which is an increase compared to 2018 and 2019 when it was 123.9. A healthy increase in start -up activity is crucial for economic stability and growth in Germany.

The ranking also includes a large number of other regions, including counties from Bavaria, Hesse, North Rhine-Westphalia, Schleswig-Holstein and Brandenburg. This diversity illustrates that in many parts of Germany there is an entrepreneurial climate that is beneficial for new ideas and economic initiatives.
