Art and War: Discover Georgia Sagri in the Liechtenstein Art Museum
The Liechtenstein Art Museum becomes a stage for a powerful and emotional examination of the issues of war and healing! From September 20, 2024 to February 9, 2025, the talented artist Georgia Sagri shows her captivating exhibition Case_o. Between was . Here the complex interplay between personal and collective battles in the midst of global tensions is explored in a spectacular way. Sagri's work, rooted in performance, sculpture and social commitment, take the viewers on an exciting journey through the darkness of the conflicts and hope for transformation.
A dramatic highlight is already waiting at the museum's facade: the vinyl sticker deep cut (2018) by Georgia Sagri represents a bleeding wound! Suddenly a 3.4 meter long cut in the building envelope - an urgent symbol for the pain and the scars that leave wars.
a whisper from the past
Case_O. Between was is part of Sagri's impressive series Cases and follows the previous exhibition Case_l in the Kunsthalle Friart, Friborg (2022). Here the artist transforms her personal experience in dealing with injury and healing into a universal message in which the focus is on traces of trauma and the possibility of regeneration. This dance between exhaustion and relaxation challenges us to face our own relationship with war and peace.
Georgia Sagri has developed a special research practice, Iasi (Greek for "relaxation"), which has been incorporated into its works for over a decade. This method that combines breathing, movement and voice technology supports self -care and collective healing. "The breath is the seat of liberation and restriction," explains the artist, "he connects us and others." - an urgent call to mindfulness and reflection on our own connections to the world.
- Focus of the exhibition: Dialogue between Sagri's current and new work and six championships from the post -war period from the Veronika and Peter Monauni collection.
- The works: liberating gestures that look back on the traumatic experiences of the war merge here with modern reflections.
- artistic highlights: The sculpture dynamis | Soma in orgasm as sex (2017) , which was presented in a solo exhibition in Athens after her restoration in 2023.
a moving experience for all senses
An indispensable part of the exhibition is the performance city , in which the renowned New York actor Jim Fletcher participates. At the opening on November 23 and 24, 2024, Sagri's body becomes a channel for the cycles of destruction and renewal - an urgent experience that forces the audience to deal with their own memories and survival.
The exhibition is accompanied by an extensive publication Case_o in order to deepen what is shown and to promote reflection on it. This event, curated by Christiane Meyer-Stoll and Letizia Ragaglia, is a must for every art lover and thinking!
