Free sports fun in the combined bath: Gropiusstadt relies on movement!

In the Gropiusstadt combination in Neukölln, a new, innovative range of sports for children and adolescents has been offered since the beginning of May 2023. The "Sport365" initiative, which is launched by Sportjugend Berlin and promoted by the State of Berlin, enables the participants to enjoy free sporting activities 365 days a year. This project is the second location of "Sport365" after the first one was opened in Görlitzer Park and has proven to be successful.

The offer is aimed particularly at children and young people from socially disadvantaged families and aims to promote community feeling and social values ​​such as fair play and respect through sport. The activities are offered on Wednesdays to Fridays from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and on Saturdays and Sundays from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and also provide for all -day support from sports teacher and the end of exercise during the summer vacation. The project is financed by the Senate Administrations for Interior and Sport, Urban Development and Living as well as education, youth and family.

One of the main goals of "Sport365" is to master social challenges through sport. This is done not only through the promotion of sporting activities, but also through the creation of social ties and the integration of people from different life cultures and traditions. According to the “Integration through Sport” program, sport is viewed as a platform to establish contacts and promote social relationships. The high integrative potential of sport is seen as an advantage for society.

The Sportjugend Berlin is already planning the next steps for the future: A lightweight building is to be built in the Gropiusstadt combination, and a third location for similar offers will be identified this year, probably in northern Berlin. These developments are in the context of a broader approach to prevention work, which emerged from a summit against youth violence, and which strives for more focus on social integration and the participation of all people in Germany.

The new range of sports has already been very well received by the participants and the official representatives, which the governing mayor Kai Wegner and sports senator Iris Spranger. The Berlin bathing companies work closely with the sports youth to make sports accessible to everyone and thus also strengthen the surrounding community. For example, the sport of dialogue and interaction should be promoted within society.

For many young people in Gropiusstadt, “Sport365” is a step into a healthier and more active future that strengthens not only the body, but also the spirit and the community.
