Climate activists block road traffic at the Kottbusser Tor - police in action
On Saturday afternoon, twelve climate activists at Kottbusser Tor in Berlin blocked road traffic. The group, which calls itself "last generation", is committed to climate protection and tries to draw attention to the urgent consequences of the climate crisis with its civil disobedience.
The blocking activists were divided into two groups. Six of them have positioned themselves on Skalitzer Straße on the corner of Adalbertstraße, while the other six prevented continuing on Skalitzer Straße on the corner of Reichenbachstrasse. The exact procedure of the activists whether they have glued to the street, for example, is still unclear.
The police are on site with around 30 emergency services and takes appropriate measures to release the blocked traffic again. The exact duration of the blockade and the procedure for evacuation are not yet known.
The protest group "Last generation" has been actively committed to climate protection for some time. With various protests and civil disobedience, they try to point out the devastating consequences of the climate crisis. The activists see themselves as an ambassador for their generation who want to take the last chances to secure the future of the planet.
The blockade campaign on the Kottbusser Tor is part of a series of actions with which the "last generation" wants to draw attention to the climate crisis. In the past, they have already blocked streets, occupied buildings and used other unconventional forms of protest to underline their demands for more climate protection.
The climate activists hope that their actions will help politicians finally deal seriously with the topic of climate protection and take effective measures. They see climate change as one of the greatest threats to mankind and require a consistent and comprehensive climate policy to contain the negative effects.
The police will dissolve the street blockade on the Kottbuser Tor and release the traffic again. It remains to be seen whether the "last generation" campaign can draw the desired attention to the topic of climate protection and lead to further discussions and measures that meet the challenges of the climate crisis.
