Kika lecture series: story adventure for children in Erfurt!
The importance of the readership for reading promotion in Germany
Promotion of reading is an important topic today, especially for the development of children in preschool and primary school age. A current project, which was launched by the Kika children's television station, is entitled "Kika comes to you! - Reading time". This initiative, which will take place in various German cities from October 2 to November 29, 2024, benefits families with young children. It not only offers a way to hear stories, but also promotes social interaction between children and recognized moderators.
A total of five libraries nationwide will visit the Kika moderators Singa, Juri, Anni and Christian. During the events, up to 200 children between the ages of four and eight can take part and actively deal with the stories. This type of reading promotion should arouse spontaneity and interest in books.
A special highlight of the reading of the readings will be the big reading event in the Kika studio in Erfurt on November 15, 2024, which takes place as part of the nationwide reading day. Not only are the moderators here, but it is also read out in sound and sign language in order to address and promote a wider target group.
The urgency of these initiatives is shown in the results of the IGLU study 2024, which has determined a dramatic decline in reading skills in primary school children. These results illustrate how important it is to give children access to books and stories early on. Through the readership and the media support in the Kika program, an attempt is made to counteract this negative trend and to support children in their linguistic development.
In addition, there are monthly reading stories on the Kikaninchen.de website and in the Kikaninchen app, which are presented by the moderators. The children should continuously inspire these offers for reading.
The example of this reading show shows how important it is to start promoting reading early in order to support future generations in the development of their linguistic skills. Registration for participation in the events can take place from September 16, 2024, which appeals to many families.
