Kiezblocks in the middle: now actively design and increase quality of life!
Berlin, Deutschland - On June 17, 2025, district councilor Christopher Schriner announced the conclusion of the neighborhood walks on the neighborhood blocks in Berlin-Mitte. 22 appointments have taken place in the past few weeks, in which a total of 25 drafts by traffic plan ends were presented. The discussions with residents and interested parties were a central part of these walks to actively shape the concept of the neighborhood blocks.
The Kiezblocks pilot projects aim to create traffic-calmed blocks between main traffic. The goal is a higher quality of life through safer, quieter roads in the Mitte district. Based on successful concepts from cities such as Barcelona and Utrecht, the neighborhood blocks are seen as opportunities for the nine -use of public space in order to avoid through traffic and optimize the living space. Over 50 neighborhood initiatives have already existed in Berlin since the initiative was launched in summer 2020.
online participation started
From now on until July 14, 2025, all interested parties have the opportunity to participate online in the help of shaping the neighborhood block designs. Citizens can find the platform for this second online participation at www.kiezblocks-mitte.de/mitmachen . Feedback, ratings and additions to the designs presented and proposals can be brought in here. Feedback from the neighborhood walks and online participation flow directly into the further development of the designs.
The district administration continues to investigate the possibilities for implementing the neighborhood blocks to meet the challenges of a growing city. The inclusion of the population is of central importance, because the mobilization of the residents should produce practical solutions.
