Hunger strike for climate crisis: engineer in protest march
In the science fiction novel "by hitchhiking through the galaxy", the number 42 is presented in response to the crucial question of the meaning of life. Wolfgang Metzeler, a 49-year-old engineer for technical environmental protection, entered a hunger strike at the Chancellery in Berlin. This hunger strike now lasted 42 days, with Metzeler seriously demanding an answer from Chancellor Olaf Scholz - especially with regard to the climate crisis. Metzeler is ready to escalate to have heard his demands.
The campaign "Hungern until you are honest" opened her camp in the Spreebogen park to underline her demands, including the recognition of the extreme risk of human civilization by the climate catastrophe and the demand for a radical change of course due to the excessive carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Metzeler has lost weight dramatically and suffers from the consequences of the hunger strike, but still threatens to escalate to build up pressure.
support received Metzeler from two other protesters, Richard Cluse and Michael Winter, who also joined the hunger strike. Linda Doblinger, a 21-year-old activist of the last generation, supports the campaign and emphasizes the urgency of open and honest communication on the part of the government on the threat of climate catastrophe. Despite the negative attitude of the government to respond to the claims, Metzeler continues his protest and accuses Olaf Scholz to want to let him die.
