Hunger strike for climate: Wolfgang Metzeler provokes with escalation

The engineer for technical environmental protection, Wolfgang Metzeler, started a hunger strike at the Chancellery in Berlin some time ago and is now on the 42nd day of his hunger strike. With this radical action, he demands a serious answer from Chancellor Olaf Scholz to the climate crisis. It is not the first time that such an action took place, as early as 2021, several activists of the last generation, also in the Spreebogen Park, entered the hunger strike.

Metzeler has announced that it also starts a thirst strike, but initially only for a day in April. Nevertheless, the government under Scholz has not yet responded to its demands. Metzeler's campaign called "Hunger until you are honest" has already won other supporters, including Richard Cluse and Michael Winter, who have also joined the hunger strike.

The 21-year-old Linda Doblinger, who belongs to the last generation, supports the campaign and demands more honesty from the political side with regard to the climate crisis. It emphasizes the importance that political decision -makers clearly name the actual threats from the climate catastrophe. Despite the pressure that Metzeler wants to build by also announcing a possible thirst strike, there has been no response from the government to its demands.

In view of the situation and hunger strike, Metzeler expressed the view that the government lets him down and aimed at letting him die by refusing to take the protest. However, the government itself emphasizes that its climate policy is on the right track and is not discussed on individual demands, as was already emphasized at a press conference.
