Hunger strike for climate: Engineer demands an answer from Chancellor
The engineer for technical environmental protection Wolfgang Metzeler has started a hunger strike in front of the Chancellery in a protest against the climate crisis. He is already on the 42nd day of his hunger strike and calls for a serious answer from Chancellor Olaf Scholz. Metzeler intends to draw attention to the urgency of the climate crisis through this radical action and to make a change.
Metzeler is not the first activist who has decided to take such a step. As early as 2021, several last generation activists entered the hunger strike and demanded a meeting with the then chancellor candidates. After most of them broke off their hunger strike, two activists reached their goal and were able to speak to Olaf Scholz. Metzeler has now also announced a thirst strike to put pressure on the government, but has so far not been reaction.
Metzeler has already lost 18 kilos of weight and his health is increasingly deteriorating. Nevertheless, he threatens to escalate and wants to further increase the pressure on the government. He believes that a real change can only be caused by drastic measures. Despite the rejection of the government, Metzeler continues to emphasize the seriousness of his action and accuses Olaf Scholz to let him down and ignore his protest.
