Heat -related health risks: Berlin leads as the most heat -planned city in Germany without enough green spaces

Invitation: Cities in the heat check: Where do people in Germany suffer the most from too much concrete and asphalt?

In the summer, increasing heat in summer becomes increasingly unbearable for the residents. The extremely high temperatures represent the greatest health risk caused by the climate crisis in Germany. This trend is significantly reinforced by a persistent surface sealing, in which valuable green areas are lost in both cities and in the country.

Which city in Germany does residents offer the lowest protection against heat due to their lack of green areas? How have area sealing and green areas in German cities and municipalities have developed in recent decades? What effects does the trend of area sealing have on the health of people in Germany? And what are the demands for politics?

These questions are dealt with by the German Environmental Aid (DUH) and the GKV alliance for Health Baden-Württemberg, a joint initiative of the statutory health insurance companies, in a digital press conference. Data from the Potsdam Luftinte Environment Planung GmbH are used. In addition to political demands, specific solutions for more climate protection and health promotion from two model cities are also presented.
