Half toned: bronze bell from Evangelical parish Berlin-Heinersdorf stolen

The Evangelical parish of Berlin-Heinersdorf was the victim of a brazen theft: the old church tower bell was stolen. The special thing about this bell is its weight of half a ton, which makes the theft appear in an even more incredible light.

The incident occurred on Sunday morning when some parishioners had to find out before the service that the rectory behind the village church, where the bell was on a base, was empty. The parishioners were shocked by the disappearance of the bell, which has been in the church since 1513.

The bell had long since not hung in the bell tower because it was badly damaged in the Second World War. With her two bullet holes, she had become unplayable. Nevertheless, the bell was a significant landmark for the 800 -year -old church. Pastor Anne-Kathrin Finke (62) very much regrets the loss.

However, the thieves seem to have been interested in the market value of the bell. The bell consists of bronze, and the current price for the metal is around 4 euros per kilo, as a scrap dealer from Berlin reports.

The last sighting of the bell was on July 13th at 7 p.m. In the following two days it must have been removed unnoticed. The parish with its 720 parishioners has reported the theft of the police and now hopes that witnesses have observed something suspicious. After all, you can't just clamp half a ton under your arm.

Notes on theft accepts the parish.
