Great fire in Potsdam: old state parliament building on the Brauhausberg on flames
Great fire at the Old Landtag in Potsdam
am Brauhausberg in Potsdam is currently the southern tribal on the old parliamentary building on fire. The fire brigade was alerted at 3:25 p.m. and is on site with around 90 emergency services, including two turntable ladder vehicles. However, the extinguishing work is difficult and last for several hours. The roof structure of the affected building has partially collapsed, so the fire brigade now focuses on preventing the flames from spreading to other parts of the building.
The Federal Office for Population Protection gives the all -clear for the population and emphasizes that there is no danger to the residents. Nevertheless, ventilation systems are switched off and windows are closed.
Due to the extinguishing work, federal road 2 is currently completely closed towards Caputh and Michendorf. This leads to considerable traffic disruptions and a long traffic jam. The police are trying to direct traffic via a detour via Heinrich Mann-Allee. Bus traffic to the south is also affected, especially on lines 608 and 643.
The fire in the old state parliament is not the first incident of this kind. Almost two weeks ago there was already a fire in an outbuilding of the state parliament. However, it was not the part of the building that is currently on fire. At that time, around 25 emergency services were on site. Arson was not excluded at the time.
The building of the old state parliament, located on the Brauhausberg, was used by the state parliament until 2013, but is now dilapidated. There was always vandalism on the site. The background of the current fire are previously unknown.
