Glass manufacturer Tschernitz before the end: 250 jobs in danger!

Tschernitz, Deutschland - The Brandenburg Glass Manufaktur (GMB) in Tschernitz has filed for bankruptcy, which is a worrying development for the German solar industry. Managing Director Nico Succolowsky confirmed that the bankruptcy application was submitted to the Cottbus district court last Friday. Around 250 jobs are affected because 243 employees are already in short work. This situation was caused by the difficult economic situation of the European solar industry, which is burdened by subsidized products from China. Despite intensive efforts, the GMB could not find a solution for restructuring, which further exacerbates.

The GMB, which has been producing solar glass for 15 years, has always campaigned for domestic production and independence of the supply chains in Germany. However, it criticizes the unfavorable competitive conditions that are obtained from the commitment to subsidized products from Asia, as well as the failed resilience bonus package of the federal government, which should have been supported. The District Administrator of Spree-Neiße, Harald Altkrüger, had already sent a fire letter to the state and federal government, in which he pointed out the urgency of the situation and asked for rescue the regional glass production.

The importance of the GMB in the region

The GMB was once the largest employer in South Brandenburg and a significant part of the German solar industry. The majority owner Borosil warned of a possible financial collapse and urgently demands support from politics, otherwise production in Tschernitz will be hired. This would not only mean a loss of 300 jobs, but would also be a difficult blow for the entire region. Christian Kern, head of the administrative head of Interfloat, emphasized the importance of this situation and the need for measures on the part of the government.

The causes of the precarious location of the GMB are diverse. Among other things, punitive tariffs against cheap solar panels from China are missing, which increases the market pressure on local manufacturers. Germany is passive compared to other countries such as India and the United States, and this is considerably impact on domestic industry. While representatives of the SPD and the Greens propose a resilience bonus in the solar package 1, the FDP is skeptical about subsidization.

resistance and challenges in the solar industry

The German solar industry is currently under great pressure. As early as 2024, there was a strong damper after a boom, triggered by the energy crisis, which was created as a result of Vladimir Putin's war of attack on Ukraine. The increasing gas prices led to an increased interest in renewable energies, especially solar energy, but the 2024 market experienced a dramatic decline. Many companies in the industry, such as special sun and Amia Energy, reported bankruptcy, which resulted in a wave of corporate closures.

A survey under installers of the market confirmed that more than two thirds reported a decline in demand for photovoltaic systems. Due to the cheap products from China, competitive pressure rose to Hessian manufacturers, which hardly cover 6% of the market for PV modules in Germany. The paragraph of solar modules has dropped significantly, which, according to forecasts, will also cause a lot of unrest in the coming months.

The fate of the GMB will not only be of crucial importance for the Tschernitz region, but also for the entire German solar industry. A possible closure could have far -reaching consequences for the development of renewable energies in Germany. Further information on the bankruptcy of the GMB and the challenges in the solar industry can be found in the reports of rbb24, Kettner Edelmetalle and Frankfurter Rundschau .
