Health crisis for asylum seekers: draft law endangers vital care
A dark cloud pull moves across Germany! Thousands of asylum seekers face the threatening reality that they no longer receive medical care - and even with painful and chronic diseases! This unsustainable situation could soon become a habit if the Bundestag waves the unscrupulous amendment to the law on asylum policy!
Today, a public hearing is advised to get a law on the way that should "improve" internal security and the asylum system. Sounds good? Far! The law stipulates that asylum seekers who have previously applied for asylum in another EU country and who are obliged to leave after just two weeks without any social benefits! A survival is only secured in cases of "extraordinary hardness"!
The unsustainable dilemma
dr. Johanna Offe, the committed director of the Advocacy department at doctors in the world, warns: "We are talking about the most existential needs such as eating, a roof over the head and basic medical care. This symbolic policy of cruelty will only lead to more people become homeless, suffer and even avoidable!"
The catastrophic conditions that could arise from this policy are devastating. Doctors of the world observes the suffering of people who have no access to medical institutions. The costs for crisis intervention due to emergency rooms are much higher than early, preventive treatment - a fact that is apparently ignored in politics!
bureaucratic hurdles without end
But that's not all! Even if asylum seekers are ready to travel to the EU country responsible for them, they often face insurmountable bureaucratic hurdles. The responsible countries often refuse to accept or need these people forever to issue the necessary papers!
According to the case law of the Federal Constitutional Court, the physical and social subsistence level must be guaranteed for everyone in Germany at all times. However, the fact that survival in the new legal situation depends on an "extraordinary hardness" contradicts the Basic Law!
dr. Offe warns: "People who live in Germany must be medical care! You are not only inhumane and illegal, but will also result in massive social problems! This must be prevented!"
The question remains: Will we watch how thousands of people suffer, or are we a sign? It is time to stand up for humanity and to counter this unsustainable asylum policy!
