Memorial walks on the Köpenick blood week: memory and exchange!
Schlierseestr. 17, 12527 Berlin, Deutschland - On June 19, 2025, the tragic “Köpenicker Blood Week” marks the 92nd anniversary. A commemorative walk is organized on this historical date to remember the brutal events in June 1933 and to reflect on their consequences during the Nazi dictatorship. The event is organized by the Mobile Youth Center Langer See, and the commemorative walks will take place on June 24th and 25th June 2025. The aim is to commemorate the victims of the acts of violence at the time and to deal with the perspectives of perpetrators, witnesses and resistance. Youth Councilor André Grammelsdorff emphasizes the importance of this examination of the past for the young generation.
The "Köpenicker Blood Week" was a time of horror when the storm departments (SA) brutally against political opponents, including Communists, Social Democrats and Jewish citizens, under the protection of the Köpenick District Court. Supported by SS and Gestapo, opposition figures were captured, humiliated and abused from June 21 to 26, 1933; Many of them lost their lives during this time. The main responsible for these crimes were only brought to court after the Second World War. A memorial was built in 1980 in one of the cells of the prison in Berlin-Köpenick and further expanded in the following years to commemorate the victim and to promote memory work.

strengthen culture of remembrance
The memory of the "Köpenicker Blood Week" is part of a more comprehensive debate about the development of memorials in Germany. The importance of these places has increased since the foundation of the Memorial Department of the Topography of Terror 25 years ago. Today they are responsible for conveying the values of democracy, integration promotion and anti -Semitism prevention, especially in the context of the increasing social challenges and right -wing populist currents.
memorials like those in Köpenick are not only reserved for historians. They are living places of learning and reflection that give answers to questions of the past and should encourage society to actively deal with their own history. The future development of these places of remembrance remains crucial for the defense of an integrative and appreciative culture of memory.
