berlin receives fresh coat of paint in Google Street View
Google Street View has finally received an update after twelve years. Berlin is now shown in new virtual views that can be explored on the platform. But not only the German capital has benefited from this update, other cities and regions worldwide can also discover current pictures on Google Street View.
The Warsaw Bridge, the City-West and the Museum Island are just a few of the places that have experienced a change from the update. For example, earlier recordings do not yet show the Waldorf Astoria or the city palace. Instead, there is an old late purchase business, bakeries and snack bars.
also in the City-West, between the zoological garden and the Kudamm, has changed a lot. Luxury hotels, boutiques, office buildings, department stores and renowned restaurants shape the image of the Charlottenburg district. Previous recordings, on the other hand, showed construction sites and a rather bare backdrop that is more reminiscent of the 90s.
Hermannstrasse, on the other hand, used to be like a journey through time in the late 2000s. Imperial and Schlecker branches could still be seen there. Tegel Airport has also changed. In the current pictures, posters can now be seen in which "Corona vaccination center" and "Ukraine Ar way". However, the private recordings from the visitor terrace and the interior of the airport have remained unchanged.
Alexanderplatz also exuded a different atmosphere before the update. The large blue "Berliner Zeitung" sign was still adorned with the building of the Berlin publisher. Alexanderstrasse was shaped by construction sites, although not as extensive as the construction work for the Covivio House on Alexanderplatz.
When Google took road recordings in Germany for the first time in 2008 and 2009, this caused great discussions about data protection and privacy. Politicians, data protectionists and property owners criticized the virtual pictures. Many had their houses pixelated on the cards.
After more than ten years, Google Street View in Germany was finally updated. If you want to have made your home unrecognizable even after the update, you have to object again. To do this, you can either fill out a web form from Google or send a completed geodata code form by email or post to Google. Google promises to respond to inquiries and to make the unrecognizability as soon as possible.
