Play street season in Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg begins after Easter

After Easter, the game street season starts in Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg and the oldest temporary play street in the district opens its goals. On Wednesday, April 3, children can play between 2:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. in Böckhstraße between Grimm- and Graefestrasse. Temporary play streets are particularly important in densely populated districts such as Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg, since many children live in a confined space and have little access to green spaces and playgrounds.

District City Councilor Annika Gerold emphasizes the importance of these game streets: "Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg is the most densely populated district of Berlin. In some of our neighborhoods, many children live in a confined space with little green areas and playgrounds. To offer these children freedom to play, romp and offer the stay in public space, temporary playing streets are an important offer."

Due to the high population density in Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg, public green areas are tight. Temporary play roads offer children the opportunity to play safely in the street space and move healthy. Temporary play streets have been successfully implemented all over Berlin since 2020.

The implementation of these game streets is only possible through the commitment of volunteers. Böckhstraße will therefore be used until the end of April, but additional volunteers are needed to continue to operate this location. Interested parties who would like to actively participate in the implementation of play streets can register.

The exact dates for temporary play streets in Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg and other districts of Berlin are continuously updated on the website www.spielstrasse.de. Support from committed citizens is essential to maintain these important offers.
