New free lockers for homeless people open in Berlin

On May 13, 2024, the deputy district mayor Oliver Nöll, together with Home & Care Nothilfe GmbH, opened a new locking facility for homeless people in Berlin. These personal lockers offer homeless people the opportunity to keep their personal objects and important documents safely and theft protected without having to pay for it. The district mayor emphasized that life on the street is hard and theft and the loss of personal objects are the order of the day. The new lockers should help those affected to be able to store their belongings safely at any time.

Die Home & Care Nothilfe GmbH is pleased with the cooperation with the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district office and the opening of the second locking facility in Berlin. This facility is intended to make the difficult life easier for the homeless people without their own apartment. The organization plans to open further locking facilities in Berlin in the near future and to implement other help offers.

In a time when homelessness is an urgent social problem, the initiative for setting up free personal lockers is a positive measure for homeless people. This makes everyday life easier for those affected and offers a certain security for their personal possessions.

It remains to be seen how well the offer is accepted and whether other districts or cities will take similar measures to help homeless people. The cooperation between the district office Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg and Home & Care Nothilf GmbH is a step in the right direction to improve the situation of the homeless population in Berlin.
