Carnival of Cultures in Kreuzberg: Conditions for Security and Environmental Protection
This year's edition of the Carnival of Cultures takes place again in Kreuzberg and is supported by district mayor Clara Herrmann. With the participation of a large number of people, however, special requirements for the use of public space are associated, which is usually not intended as a central fairground. The district office attaches particular importance to the safety of the event participants and has instructed the organizer to remove potentially dangerous stumbling blocks such as protection elements on the bike path.
A particularly high pressure to use exists on the green area on Blucherplatz during the carnival. Due to the legally prescribed high protection status for green areas, requirements were handed over to the organizer in order to avoid long -term damage. A central claim of the district is the free provision of toilets for all participants to protect the green areas and minimize potential harassment for residents.
District Mayor Clara Herrmann emphasized the importance of the carnival of cultures as a symbol of racism and for diversity. The event was launched in the 1990s in response to racist attacks and has been celebrating the cultural diversity in Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg since then. District Councilor Annika Gerold emphasized that the revision of the concepts in cooperation with the organizer was important to ensure security, tree protection and free toilets for everyone.
A large, colorful festival for everyone involved and visitors is sought, while the district office continues to pay attention to compliance with the set requirements and security measures.
