Memory of the Reichspogromnacht: remind and remind you in Kreuzberg

On the dark night from November 9th to 10th, 1938, when the mischief started in Germany, the horrors of history went into the annals in the pogrom night. Over 7,000 Jewish business devastated, countless synagogues on flames, and more than 1,300 Jews murdered brutally! These horrible acts marked the shocking start to the merciless persecution of the Jewish population by the National Socialist regime.

On November 9, 2024, the 86th anniversary of these terrible events, Berlin will remember! The district council, the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district office and the Fraenkelufer synagogue have invited to a memorial event. A silent commemoration with wreath laying should call the actions of the past in our memory and pay respect to the victims.

It is clear that Clara Herrmann also takes part in this commemoration in order to underline the importance of the shock publisher. On this occasion she will emphasize: "The history of Schocken Verlag stands exemplary for the destruction of Jewish life by the National Socialists. With our commemoration, we are making a strong sign of the preservation of Jewish culture in our district and are determined against anti -Semitism."

The Schocken Verlag, founded in 1931 by Salman Schocken and known for his diverse literary works, became a victim of this dark time. After 1937, publishing became more difficult for the publisher, censorship and repression followed - 1938 the pogroms were the last blow: the publishing building was stormed, valuable books in the flames. Employees risked their lives to save manuscripts from the flames, but in December 1938 the publisher was finally closed.

These memorial events invite you to remember the horrors of the past and at the same time to set a strong sign for the future. The victim is thought every year and we linger in silent memory and awe. Be there!
