The district councilor for traffic, green spaces, order and environment, Annika Gerold, emphasized the importance of deflected areas for better rainwater management and lowering the temperatures in hot summer months, especially in high -compressed neighborhoods. She emphasized that remote areas and green urban rooms are decisive elements of a sustainable urban design. However, she pointed out that the district office loses an important financing column for projects of this kind this year, since the state funds for the city beautification are eliminated. She appealed to the Berlin Senate to further promote the ran sealing projects in the districts if the sponge city should be more than just a lip service.
