Escape at full speed: Driver risks life in crash in Wedding!
On Saturday night, a VW Golf driver in Wedding evaded a police check and ran through red lights before being involved in a traffic accident. At around 11:30 p.m., police forces selected the driver for control at the intersection of Seestrasse and the corner of Afrikanische Strasse. Instead of stopping, the driver accelerated and fled towards the city highway, where he endangered other road users with excessive speed and risky driving maneuvers.
His escape ended at the Spandauer Damm exit when he ran a red light at an intersection and collided with an oncoming vehicle. The VW Golf skidded and landed on the bike rack at the Westend S-Bahn station. While the driver fled and jumped onto the track bed, the two 16-year-old passengers, who also got away from the vehicle, were caught by the police. They were taken to hospital with abrasions. Despite a large-scale search with a helicopter, the police were unable to find the fugitive driver. The investigation is now being carried out by the specialist commissioner for traffic offenses.
