Raid in Berlin: Police smash insurance fraud with counterfeits!

Around 35 police officers were on Thursday morning to carry out searches for suspicious insurance fraud. At seven locations in Berlin - including Friedrichshain, Neukölln and Wedding - indications of 58 suspected fraud cases were collected. The focus is on an insurance broker who is currently in the Heidering correctional facility due to an earlier drug offense.

The investigation is directed against a total of four people, including a 31-year-old woman and three men aged 33, 44 and 45 years. Since November 2022, they are said to have taken out household and bicycle theft insurance and then reported non-existent, expensive bicycles worth up to 18,000 euros as stolen, which suggests a total damage of around 310,000 euros. During the searches, numerous evidence, including fake documents and bank cards, were ensured. In addition, the officials came across fentanyl paving with a high active ingredient content-a 33-year-old was taken into custody because of the unauthorized trade in drugs.
