Timetable change in Brandenburg: Many regional trains are eliminated!

From December 2025, there will be extensive changes in the regional traffic in Brandenburg. The Berlin-Brandenburg Transport Association (VBB) announced these innovations today. The adjustments are the result of a lack of financial resources for rail transport (SPNV). As a result, some main lines are strengthened and several marginal connections are set. The weekend and evening connections are particularly affected, such as the RE62 line, which is completely eliminated.

The restrictions also affect the RB27 regional train lines between Basdorf and Wensickendorf and the RB36 between Beeskow and Frankfurt (Oder). On the RB27, train traffic is limited to the main traffic times in the morning and afternoon, while no more connections are offered at the weekend. On the RB36, the trains only run every two hours after 8 p.m.

Financial backgrounds and new offers

Overall, there is a clear picture: the regionalization funds of the federal government do not sufficiently cover the increased operating costs. Transport Minister Detlef Tabbert pointed out the need for more targeted financing. To solve the financial difficulties, connections with fewer than ten passengers are to be deleted at outskirts.

At the same time, there is also positive news. The Re3 connection between Berlin and Prenzlau is extended to hourly trips, while a new line, the RE30, is introduced between Angermünde and Stralsund. In addition, on lines RE2 (Potsdam - Berlin - Cottbus) and Re8 (Berlin - Elsterwerda), the offer is increased, with an hourly connection during the week on the Re8.

ticket regulations and new lines

Another important change concerns the ticket regulations: from December 14, 2025, local transport tickets will no longer be recognized in certain long -distance trains from Deutsche Bahn. This applies in particular to the Berlin -Prenzlau and Potsdam - Berlin -Cottbus routes, where passengers have so far been able to use the long -distance trains with local transport tickets.

The changes are part of a comprehensive timetable that is from the point of view of the financial realities. However, there will also be new options for passengers. The introduction of the hydrogen trains on the Heidekrautbahn between Berlin and Groß Schönebeck as well as the trains on the lines RB25 (Berlin-Werneuchen) and RB26 (Berlin-Müncheberg), which will in future run every half hour, will be remarkable steps into the future.

The VBB points out that the connection according to Szczecin (RB66) is also reduced, but at the same time a new changeover connection via Pasewalk is available. Overall, the changes will provide discussions in the coming weeks, as they bring both restrictions and new offers.

In summary, it can be said that the upcoming timetable change on December 14, 2025 in Brandenburg brings both challenges and new perspectives for passengers. More information about the changes and possible connections are available on the VBB and Deutsche Bahn website.
