Search for "Löwin" in Berlin and Brandenburg turns out to be a false alarm

In the past few days, the supposed viewing of a lioness in Berlin and Brandenburg has caused excitement. Numerous police operations were carried out to find the animal and protect the population. But now it turns out: it was obviously only a wild boar.

The search for the big cat began after a witness in Kleinmachnow near Berlin recorded a short cell phone video on which the supposed animal could be seen. The investigative authorities assessed the video as real and went out of a serious threat.

Several hundred thousand euros were spent on the use of the police, in which up to 220 civil servants, drones, helicopters and an armored vehicle were used. Some got upset that the video material was not analyzed earlier and that the large -scale use could have been prevented.

The mayor of Kleinmachnow, Michael Gruber, and the senior police officer finally announced at a press conference that the search will be hired for the time being. The evaluation of the video showed that the supposed lion is most likely one or two wild boars.

In order to create clarity, feces and hair samples were sent to an institute for analysis. The results are only expected in the course of the next week. However, the previous analyzes of the video images and the expertise of experts indicate that it is not a lioness, but one or two wild boars.

Nevertheless, the police continue to be vigilant and emphasized that there is no acute risk situation. The population of Kleinmachnow was called to be careful and to limit activities outdoors as long as there is a risk of free Löwin.

It remains to be seen whether the upcoming analysis of the samples creates final clarity. Until then, the citizens of Berlin and Brandenburg can at least be reassured for the time being that no Löwin runs around nearby. Rather, it looks like that it was a misconception and the supposed big cat was actually a wild boar.
