The former football star o.J. Simpson succumbed to cancer at the age of 76, as his family announced. Simpson, who was acquitted from suspicion of murder three decades ago, said goodbye to life in the middle of his children and grandchildren. The family asked for privacy and respect during this difficult time.
Orenthal James "O.J." Simpson, born on July 9, 1947 in San Francisco, was already known as a child for his sporting talent. As a professional, he was successful in the NFL and played for the San Francisco 49ers and the Buffalo Bills. After his sporting career, he appeared in films and television series and commented on sports events.
The year 1994 marked a turning point in Simpson's life when he was arrested after a spectacular chase with the police because of the murder of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend. Despite a handsome judgment in 1995, he was sentenced to pay high compensation in a later civil proceedings.
Another incident in 2008 led to Simpson's conviction of 33 years in prison for armed robbery and assault in Nevada. However, he was released prematurely and has lived in Las Vegas since then. Simpson was married twice and had five children.
