EU responsibility: children protect instead of tightening border protection
In view of the current situation on the Polish-Belarusian border, the child's rights organization Terre des Hommes calls for the EU and its Member States to meet its responsibility for human and children's rights. The plans of the Polish government to establish a restricted zone on the border to Belarus are criticized, as this further deteriorates the humanitarian situation. At least 36 unaccompanied children have already been stranded on the border, the direct contact of which is made more difficult by the planned blocking zone. Terre des Hommes is committed to ensuring that the security and protection of children come first, regardless of their origin.

EU responsibility: children protect instead of tightening border protection
The situation on the Polish-Belarusian border is currently worsening. The child rights organization Terre des Hommes calls on the EU and its Member States to meet its responsibility for human and children's rights. The Polish government plans to build a restricted zone on the border with Belarus, which would further deteriorate the humanitarian situation. In these areas, human rights activists, journalists and humanitarian helpers would no longer have access. According to Maria Ksiazak from the International Humanitarian Initiative Foundation, at least 36 unaccompanied children are currently stuck to the border. A new regulation is intended to further restrict access to the border and prevent direct contact. Ksiazak reports of a 5.5 meter high fence that was covered with a razor-colored die-harmonica wire. Behind the fence there are children who endure in the EU. There is also a door in the fence that is used for illegal pushbacks. Terre des Hommes is committed to ensuring that this door is opened for children. The Polish government, the EU and its Member States have to protect people who are looking for protection in Europe. Every child has the right to live in dignity. Terre des Hommes demands that the security and protection of children come first, regardless of their origin.
