traffic education in Berlin
The youth traffic schools play an important role in traffic education in Berlin. There are a total of 25 such schools that are supported by the district offices. While Treptow-Köpenick has a youth traffic school, Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg and Pankow have three each, and the other districts have two. These facilities contribute to the traffic formation of all students and offer, among other things, a theoretical cycling test that is a prerequisite for the practical test.
A central goal of youth traffic schools is to promote traffic safety. This is achieved through mobility formation and traffic education, which are anchored as cross -sectional tasks in the school law. Schools do important training work by offering both theoretical and practical training courses that prepare for the use of bicycles, scooters and other means of transport
challenges and further developments
Despite their important tasks, youth traffic schools face modern challenges. The organizational environment is often perceived as not contemporary, there are often personnel changes, and the Internet offers are inconsistent. Therefore, there are various demands on Berlin politics to improve the situation, for example the creation of a fixed pedagogical direction per school and uniform minimum opening times.
With the inauguration of the new barrier -free youth traffic school in Steglitz in September 2021, the approach to traffic education has already developed. This school is said to act as a modern center that offers traffic safety training all year round and at the same time wants to improve access to mobility formation. According to the state transport guard, over 300,000 participants now visit the traffic schools annually, which underlines the high demand and importance of their offers.
