Discover the hidden treasures of Charlottenburg Town Hall on Open Monument Day!
On the upcoming weekend of September 6th and 7th, 2024, the district office will offer interesting programs on the occasion of Open Monument Day to give citizens insights into important historical sites.
Led by District Mayor Kirstin Bauch, an exclusive tour of Charlottenburg Town Hall will be offered on Friday, September 6th, from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. The number of participants is limited to 60 people, which is why prior registration is required by telephone at (030) 9029-12359 or by email to presse@charlottenburg-wilmersdorf.de. During the tour, interesting insights into the history of the house as well as into normally hidden areas are provided.
Furthermore, the doors of the Administrative Information Center (VIZ) in the former municipal library in the Charlottenburg town hall are open to those interested. The VIZ serves as a cultural memory of the district with over 200 years of history and will present rare books, files and plans on the subject of energy on Friday, September 6th and Saturday, September 7th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Registration for this event is not required and a guided tour will also be offered on Friday at 2 and 4 p.m.
A special highlight of the program is the opportunity to climb the tower of the Charlottenburg town hall, which is otherwise not open to the public, on September 6th. From 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m., visitors can climb the tower in small groups and enjoy a breathtaking view over Berlin. Pre-registration by telephone at (030) 9029-14302 is mandatory as the number of participants is limited. Before climbing, participants must sign a declaration of consent stating that they climb the tower at their own risk. The meeting points for the tours are in front of the gatekeeper's box of the town hall on the 1st floor.
It is important to note that both the town hall tour and the climb to the town hall tower are not barrier-free. Anyone interested should register early to secure a place for these exclusive tours and to be able to experience the rich history of the Charlottenburg Town Hall up close.
