in Berlin with electric cargo bikes

The delivery of packages in Berlin will be further optimized from July 2024 by using electric cargo bikes. With the opening of a new micromobility center near Alexanderplatz, Amazon plans to deliver more than 1.5 million packages annually with the help of e-bikes. This primarily affects the populated districts of Spandau, Reinickendorf and Pankow.

The newly opened micromobility center in the APCOA parking garage of the Alexa shopping center becomes the central starting point for loading the packages into the cargo bikes. This enables Amazon delivery partners to use innovative delivery methods in the densely populated inner cities and thus reduce the emissions of harmful emissions.

The delivery by electric cargo bike takes place not only at Alexanderplatz, but also from the distribution center in Tegel to the Reinickendorf district. Amazon already operates more than 50 micromobility centers in over 40 cities across Europe. In Germany, six cities, including Munich, Freiburg, Koblenz, Aachen, Essen and Berlin, are delivered packages by electric cargo bike. In Düsseldorf the delivery is even carried out by handcart.

The expansion of deliveries by electrical load bike in Berlin is a big step for Amazon to ensure punctual delivery and reduce traffic in the city center. Rocco Bräuniger, Country Manager from Amazon in Germany, emphasizes the importance of reducing delivery-related emissions on the way to CO2 neutrality by 2040.

In order to support the electrification of its transport network, Amazon uses more than 1,200 electrically operated delivery vans in Germany. Since last year, more than 300 Rivian electrical delivery vans have been used in the Munich, Berlin and Düsseldorf regions. In addition, Amazon has invested in numerous charging stations for electric vehicles.

As a co-founder of the Climate Plessge, Amazon has set itself the goal of becoming CO2-neutral by 2040. This goal is supported by projects for the use of renewable energies. Amazon has already initiated six projects in Germany that are supposed to generate enough electricity after completion to supply more than 800,000 households with energy. These include offshore wind farms in the North and Baltic Sea and solar systems on the roofs of Amazon locations.

Amazon's commitment to sustainability and climate protection is in line with the endeavor to be the most customer -oriented company and offer the safest job. By using electrical delivery vehicles and the use of renewable energies, Amazon contributes to reducing environmental impacts and supports change to a sustainable future.
