The back of the treasure: discover an art course in the Körnerpark!
On Friday, June 27, 2025, the group exhibition "The Back of the Treasure" will open in the gallery in the Körnerpark at 6 p.m. The cultural councilor Janine Wolter will be present at the opening and welcome the guests. The exhibition deals with the historic wonder chamber and modern interpretations of technology, order and perception. The focus is on the work "The Throne of the Grand Mogul" by Johann Melchior Dinglinger from the 18th century, the back of which is artistically illuminated.
This exciting argument is supplemented by a 3D model of the original and a reincarnation dinglinger. The curator, Jiaxing Chao, introduces visitors to the thematic questions. The architecture of the gallery is designed as a walk -in course, which plays with reflections and spatial shifts in order to deepen the reflection on the miracle chamber.
diverse artists and events
The artists involved include well-known positions such as Esteban Azuela, Mariana Castillo Deball, Miguel Covarrubias, Ce Jian, Irene Kopelman, Yuki Okumura, Simon Starling and Natalia Zagorska-Thomas. Your works invite you to reflect on the relevance of the Wunderkammer in contemporary art. The exhibition runs from June 28 to October 8, 2025 and is open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Admission is free.
Accompanying the exhibition, various events are planned. On July 5, 2025 at 3 p.m. there will be an exhibition tour with curator Jiaxing Chao. The event "Sonne, Moon and Stern" by Mariana Castillo Deball on July 26, 2025 is also planned in the program. At the climax of Berlin Art Week, two consecutive events will take place on September 13, 2025: an exhibition tour followed by a conversation with Simon Wachsmuth about "Porcelain, robe, dance and memory in the view of the mercantilistic age". The finissage ends on October 8, 2025 at 6 p.m.
insights into the historical meaning
A special focus of the exhibition is on the historical importance of the wonder chamber, which served as a place of amazement and education in the 18th century. The influence of August of the Strong of Poland and Saxony, which set up the treasury as a public museum in 1723, is also discussed. The tension between representation and imagination in art history is thus illuminated.
The gallery in the Körnerpark is located at Schierker Straße 81, 12051 Berlin. This extraordinary art project is made possible by promoting the Neukölln district and the Senate Department for Culture and Social Cohesion. The opening is part of the event "48 hours Neukölln", which the city transforms into a living cultural center for three days.
