New bridge for nature conservation: Building on the Ruhleben flow meadow begins

The anticipation increases, because the construction work on a brand new footbridge for the Ruhleben ranning meadow will start soon! On Tuesday, November 12, 2024 , it will finally start - an exciting project that should not only improve the way from the Ruhleben settlement to the west, but also upgrades our beautiful local recreation area around the Murellenschlucht and the Schanzenwald!

At a time when nature conservation is becoming increasingly important, this project comes as called! The Ruhleben flow meadow, an impressive wetland with a size of around 11.8 hectares, has enjoyed particular attention since 1959 and is under strict nature conservation. Since 2012 it has even been part of the European Natura 2000 protective area network.

The old path adé!

The previous path led over a dam that separates the sensitive low bogs. With floods, this was often impassable - a real problem for hikers and nature lovers! With the new bridge, this anger will soon be a thing of the past. A planned piercing of four meters will combine the two low bog areas and ensures that the path remains accessible even in extreme weather conditions.

This is a big step for the ecological upgrading of the Nature Conservation area Fließwiese: protection of nature and at the same time more leisure opportunities for residents: inside and visitors: Inner. The commitment of the district council (BVV) Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf can be felt here-they have made this significant decision.

The costs are transparent!

And what does the fun cost? A total of 55,000 euros! This sum is carried by the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf environmental and nature conservation office and the Senate Department for Mobility, Transport, Climate Protection and the Environment. An investment in our nature and leisure!

On an exciting project that not only serves nature conservation, but also increases the quality of life in the region. The future of the Ruhleben flow meadow shines brightly!
