Fraud in Berlin: Young men play the police and collect fines!

Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf, Berlin, Deutschland - Three young men aged 24 and 23 are suspected of having spent police officers in Berlin and having carried out fraudulent traffic controls. On Wednesday morning, the State Criminal Police Office carried out searches in several districts, including Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf, Mitte and Tempelhof-Schöneberg. This measure was initiated in the course of an investigation into gang and commercial fraud and forgery of documents, as the Berlin police reported on Thursday.

The suspects are said to have used police equipment from which one of the 24-year-old, a former police officer, did not return them after his release in the summer of 2024. According to reports, the fraudsters confronted their victims with alleged violations and asked them to make immediate "fine payments". The group also rented hotel rooms, in which they falsified official documents and offered them for sale. During the searches, the officials discovered police equipment as well as mobile phones and electronic storage media. The investigation is still in full swing, reports www.tagesspiegel.de .
