Berlin Plant Supplement to the Basic Law with sexual identity

In his speech on the opening of the Christopher Street Day (CSD) in Berlin, Berlin's Governing Mayor Kai Wegner (CDU) spoke out for a supplement to Article 3 in the Basic Law with the aspect of sexual identity. Wegner emphasized that this was a promise of the Berlin Senate and that this would be achieved together with the Queer Community.

Article 3 of the Basic Law prohibits the disadvantage or preference of people due to their gender, their descent, their race, their language, their homeland and origin, their faith, their religious or political views. The demand for a supplement to the article about the aspect of sexual identity has been in the Queeren Community for a long time.

The SPD, the Greens and the FDP are also committed to supplementing the equal treatment article in the Basic Law, according to their coalition agreement in order to prohibit discrimination due to sexual identity. However, the traffic light coalition would have to receive the opposition in the Bundestag and the Federal Council for a change in the Basic Law, since a two-thirds majority is required.

The deputy CDU chairman Andreas Jung carefully commented on Wegner's move. He emphasized that Article 3 of the Basic Law already guarantees the full protection of the rule of law for queer people and that a debate about an expansion of the Basic Law must be sensitively.

During his opening speech to the CSD, Wegner also warned of the increasing discrimination against queer and emphasized that Berlin will always be a safe port for people who are attacked in other countries. He referred to the threat of queer people in different countries such as Ghana, Uganda and Poland.

While Wegner campaigned for the right queer people, there were protests against him, in which the call "Wegner must go away" was heard. The CDU politician took these protests and emphasized that he had sent many messages supported by the CSD association. He commented on the protests as a variety of opinion and emphasized that this was also part of the CSD.

Wegner also commented on the display of the new queer officer of the Senate, Alfonso Pantisano (SPD), against journalist Julian Reichelt. He explained that the complaint had been noted and there was not much to say. Reichelt had criticized the hoist of the rainbow flag in front of the Berlin police headquarters, whereupon Pantisano had shown him for sedition.

The CSD in Berlin is under the motto "Be their voice - and our! For more empathy and solidarity!" And around half a million people are expected. Wegner opened the CSD together with Bundestag President Bärbel Bas and is therefore the first governing mayor to have this honor.
