Berlin sets sign: Strategy for strengthening queer security!
On July 3, 2025, the Berlin Senate organized an important conference with participation, which is part of a comprehensive process for the development of a "state strategy for queer security and against queer hostility". This initiative was launched by Senator Cansel Kızıltepe more than 15 months ago and makes Berlin the first federal state to develop such a strategy. So far, over 300 people have participated in the process to strengthen the security of LSBTIQ+ people in the capital.
The conference took place in Kreuzberg and gathered about 150 participants, including Kızıltepe and the queer activist Alfonso Pantisano. In August 2024, a round table, which was founded on March 19, 2024 and consists of 29 representations of civil society, senate administrations and security authorities, will be handed over to Kızıltepe. This round table is managed by the contact person Queeres Berlin and is said to
worrying incidents
In the past few days there have been two queer -anti -queer attacks on bars in Schöneberg and Prenzlauer Berg, which also underlines the need for the strategy. Reports on discrimination show that the security of queer people in public space and at work is not a matter of course. The Berlin State Government also set the goal of fighting queer hostility and hate crime against LSBTIQ+ in its guidelines on government policy 2023–2026.
The increasing number of queer -anti -queer incidents in the city is particularly worrying. According to the bka , a total of 17.007 cases of hate crime were registered, 1,785 of these criminal offenses against LSBTIQ* an increase of more than 50 percent compared to the previous year. This increase is associated with increasing willingness to advertise within the community and a opposite attitude in society.
participation and collaboration
The participation process for the development of the state strategy includes a wide range of interactive formats and enables citizens to actively contribute their suggestions and concerns. The kick-off event took place in March 2024, and the strategy will be developed in cooperation with various LSBTIQ+ communities and the city society. The leadership lies with the state office for equal treatment - against discrimination (lads).
The round table, which also includes representatives from civil society, administration and associations, has developed a concept that includes fields of action and specific working groups. These groups are responsible for the identification of problems, objectives and suggestions for measures to combat queer hostility.
With this comprehensive strategy, the city would like to ensure that Berlin remains a rainbow capital and that the acceptance of gender and sexual diversity is not only promoted, but also protected like a basic social pillar. To achieve this, not only a clear political line is required, but also a strong commitment of the entire community.
The current developments in Berlin show that despite the efforts to ensure safe and inclusive society, it is urgently necessary to actively combat the anti -queer tendencies and to strengthen the visibility of the queer community. Accordingly, the Berlin Senate has spoken in favor of countering queer hostility and hate crime in the coming years.
