Berlin relies on solar energy: private photovoltaic systems continue to

The future of energy generation in Berlin

The expansion of renewable energies in Berlin has recorded significantly in recent years. Solar energy plays a particularly important role. More and more Berliners are relying on private photovoltaic systems that are installed on private balconies and public areas. These measures contribute to continuously increasing the proportion of solar energy in overall current production.

The Senator for Economic Affairs Franziska Giffey informed that almost 33,700 photovoltaic systems with a total output of 327 megawatts were already installed in Berlin. There is an impressively a fifth of these facilities on the country's properties. Around 4.2 percent of total current production in Berlin currently comes from solar energy. The long -term goal is to increase this share to 25 percent by 2035, which corresponds to a required performance of 4,400 megawatts.

An interesting development is the planned construction of the largest solar system in Berlin at the roofs of the Berlin Mass. By the end of this year, a total of 20,000 modules are to be installed on around 20 trade fair roofs, which produce around 7.3 gigawatt hours of electricity annually. This project illustrates the positive trend towards greater use of solar energy in the capital.

Another example of the expansion of solar energy in Berlin is the efforts of the Berlin transport company (BVG). Eight solar systems are already in operation on their properties, and another 13 plants are being planned. This enables the BVG to gain a tenth of its required electricity from solar energy. These measures show that large companies in the capital also rely on renewable energies and thus make an important contribution to sustainable energy supply.
