Berlin celebrates variety: Prix Europa 2024 and award for Mirjam Kottmann

A radiant evening in Berlin! The best media productions in the continent were celebrated in the magnificent Red town hall on Friday evening! 15 outstanding works in the categories Audio, Digital Media and Video received the coveted Prix Europe awards. The glamorous highlight? The title "European journalist of 2024" was awarded to the impressive Mirjam Kottmann - a true pioneer of journalism!

In the middle of the festive ambient, the moderator Franziska Hoppen explained the winners and was enthusiastically received by those present. The moving honor of Mirjam Kottmann particularly stood out. The experienced journalist, known for her tireless passion for the profession, never sees herself as an outsider despite her diagnosis of multiple sclerosis! Kottmann, who has been working on Bavarian Radio for 27 years, is not only a voice of the reporter, but also an inspiring model for many.

The German film landscape was able to look forward to twice: the gripping mini series "Die Das doubters", which tells the fate of a Jewish family in Frankfurt, and the clear investigative documentary "The Strohmann Kartell-service provider for the Mafia" were honored with the highest awards. A reason to joy for all German media talents!

But not only Germany shone: The Norwegians also went home with bright trophies! The documentary "A New Kind of Wilderness" was named the best TV documentary, while the captivating series "Dates in Real Life" was recognized as the best TV series. A truly Scandinavian festival of the film!

The Audiowelt set new standards with the Lithuanian radio feature "Coming Out", which touched the heart and was recognized as the best audio documentary. In addition, the price for the best investigative audio series went to the renowned BBC podcast "To Catch a Scorpion". Here journalistic boundaries were played in a playful way - the audience was enthusiastic!

Especially in the area of ​​identity and diversity, significant accents were set. The Prix Europa Iris for the best media project in this context won the Austrian radio feature "Blown Hours / Blijedi Sati". It prevailed in a strong competition, which proves that media play a crucial role in discourse on diversity.

Ulrike Demmer, RBB director, emphasized in her speech by Kottmann's steadfast determination. Her presence and the way you overcome barriers in journalism are a shining example for everyone, she says. Mirjam Kottmann not only fights for the truth, but also against social injustices!

The Prix Europe makes the hearts of media professionals beat faster and offers a platform for the exchange and promotion of outstanding journalistic achievements in Europe.
