The focus: Berlin discusses new control strategies!

Berlin, Deutschland - On May 23, 2025, the spring conference on gang crime took place in the anti-terrorist center of the Berlin police. The focus of the conference was on the structural gang crime, in particular the clank rimity, and the phenomenon of the "Crime AS A Service". Ms. Dr. Slovik Meisel opened the event and warmly welcomed the participants. The President of the Federal Criminal Police Office, Holger Münch, held the first keynote speech and illuminated international and national changes in gang crime.

On Thursday, a lecture by Johannes Hermanns, the President of the Cologne police, followed current developments in structural gang crime. A full -time public prosecutor from the Netherlands, Peter Huttenhuis, presented a public prosecutor's perspective and the importance of the cooperation of European authorities.

research results on clank rimity

parallel to the discussions at the conference, the annual research network project "Crime of Large Family Limited Structures" (account) was also presented, which was carried out from 2020 to 2023. Funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, the institutions involved, including the HWR Berlin, had the goal of gaining new knowledge about the worlds of relatives of large families.

The researchers Daniela Hunold, Tamara Dangelmaier and Maren Wegner used a netnography to analyze social networks and the resulting discourses. They focused on how these structures influence criminal behavior. The brochure published in February 2024 documents the results and offers valuable starting points for the prevention and combating of the clank rimity, which is often favored by social and economic factors.

challenges of gang crime

gang crime is a worldwide problem that includes groups with at least three members who work in various illegal activities, including drug trafficking, human trafficking and robbery. As the website Safercity.de reports, there is a connection between social exclusion, poverty and an increased risk of young people to join criminal structures. This is often reinforced by a lack of integration of migrants.

In order to counteract this problem, effective prevention strategies are important. This includes the cooperation between the police and community, as well as the implementation of educational and social programs in order to offer endangered young people. Initiatives such as "Safe City" and programs such as "strong neighborhoods" aim to strengthen the feeling of community and to increase security in city districts.

The conference was rounded off by a photo shoot and a lecture by Mathias Döpfner, the CEO of Axel Springer SE. In his speech, he addressed the questions of "defensive democracy" in the context of current challenges due to gang crime. The final round was led by Kai Wegner, the governing mayor of Berlin, who highlighted the importance of the exchange for combating organized crime structures and strengthening public security.
