punk meets activism in Berlin
An unexpected place of the protest was enveloped in Berlin by the controversy when the collective Pussy Riot presented an impressive performance entitled "Rage" in the new National Gallery. In the middle of the iconic museum architecture, the Russian punk band around Nadeschda Tolokonnikowa played in front of an enthusiastic audience at the invitation of museum director Klaus Biesenbach on the terrace.
a message of change
Among the group's characteristic wool masks gathered several dozen women to set an example together with the nice band. Tolokonnikowa sang her critical texts with a martial background noise electronically distorted, always in interactive contact with the spectators who showed their support clearly.
unimpressed by the sudden cloudburst, accompanied by a deep sun, the haunting performance led to an unexpected climax, when an almost complete rainbow appeared above the scene, as a symbol of hope and resistance.
a sign against authoritarian structures
The collective, founded in 2011, has made a name for itself through her courageous actions and sharp criticism of the Russian leadership around President Vladimir Putin. Known for their appearance in the Christi-Servener-Cathedral in Moscow, in which members were arrested after they performed a prayer against the politics of the Kremlin with knitting masks, Pussy Riot in Berlin sets another sign of freedom and change.
