VHI welcomes Eudr EU shift: relief for wood industry

The wood -based material industry in Germany cheers! A real ray of hope for the industry is in sight, because the EU Commission has taken the crucial step to postpone the start-up of the controversial Eudr by a total of 12 months. After months of uncertainty and almost overwhelming bureaucratic challenges, the members of the Association of the German Wood Materials Industry (VHI) finally breathe open! This decision was more than overdue and comes at exactly the right time.

"We are relieved!" Calls the eager managing director of the VHI, Anemon Strohmeyer , in a strong statement. "We have been working on a shift since the end of 2023 and are amazed at the complexity and ambiguities of the Eudr, which were hard to manage for us. Now there is the chance to hear our concerns and to improve the conditions for our member companies."

EU Commission gives the green light!

The Eudr, which aims to enforce deflection -free products in the EU, was criticized by many as confused and bureaucratic. The Eudr should ensure that wood made of wood does not have any negative effects on the forests. But the way there is like an infinite bureaucracy story with many hurdles!

The technical inadequacy of the information system and the lack of risk classification of certain countries have put the industry under pressure. "It was high time that the emergency brake was pulled because we have to find practical solutions, especially for countries like Germany that are already dealing responsibly with resources," continues Strohmeyer.

industry representatives demand practicality!

The VHI, which represents the interests of wood -based manufacturers not only nationally, but also at European level, plans to use the newly won time in the best possible way in order to develop more practical solutions together with the EU Commission. "We appeal to the European Parliament to have the shift ratified!", Strohmeyer is emphasizing.

The wood -based material industry is at the top of the European markets with annual sales of 5.3 billion euros in 2023. This industry not only embodies economic strength, but also sustainable action. By processing sawdust and old wood, the valuable raw material wood is used efficiently and protected by recycling. A profit for the environment, a victory for industry!
